Advanced finishing technologies are essential for precision optics manufacturing to produce high-quality optics which performance has a strong positive correlation with geometrical accuracy and surface quality. This speech will introduce some advanced finishing technologies developed by the speaker in the past few years, ranging from vibration-assisted polishing, ultraprecision finishing by loose abrasives to magnetic abrasive polishing. The applications can be found in optical mold insert, microfluidics, aerospace and neutron optics, covering aspheric, freeform, internal and microstructured surfaces. The principle, methodology as well as evaluations of these technologies will be addressed, and the challenges and trends for the future development will be discussed.
